While we’re staying home for Spring Break this year to celebrate Emerson’s 4th birthday with friends and family, I’m prepping for our June vacation to Destin’s 30A corridor in advance so I don’t miss out on some fabulous styles and prices. Between living in an area that isn’t exactly next door to a shopping mecca and having two small kids that require the bathroom and snacks every 15 seconds, online shopping has really become my go-to option these days.
My process goes something like this-once I have found looks that I like and read a few reviews to confirm fit and quality of the product, I typically purchase two of each item in two different sizes, depending on fit feedback. I especially do this on bottoms, since these seem to be the area I struggle with the most. Then, I check the qualifications to get free shipping (typically $50-$75 spent equals free shipping) and many sites offer free returns as well, so you won’t lose money if you shop in this way. I try everything on in the comfort of my home and bonus is, I can sift through my closet to make sure I have a few options that I can incorporate with the new pieces. Here are a few items that I purchased recently from my go-to sites, and if you have a go-to site or online shopping trick, please share, I’d love to hear them!
Pixie Medium Wash Low-Rise Distressed Denim Cutoff Shorts @ Lulus.com
These shorts are $40 and low rise, which is good, because this high rise trend makes me look like I’m reliving the 80s…ugh.
For reference, I am 5’3″, approximately 115 lbs and pear shaped. I typically wear a 27 or 4 in bottoms, so I ordered a 27 and a 28 in these since they are low rise and I don’t like cutoffs to be too tight. I live in casual clothes during the summer, and for the price, it really can’t be beat! Shop these shorts HERE.
Minorca Black Romper @ Lulus.com
This romper is $44 and comes in several different color options, but I stuck with black because I’m imagining a fabulous tan when I sport this. I ordered it in a small to be slightly loose, but be careful, the reviews say it can shrink slightly, even if you avoid the dryer, so another reason to perhaps order up a size. Shop this look HERE.
Passion Island Teal Blue Floral Print Maxi Dress @ Lulus.com
I ordered this gorgeous maxi dress in an xs after seeing in reviews that the back hem is longer than the front and fit overall is true to size. I may still need to get it hemmed a bit. I plan on sporting this for Easter, prom duty, and our summer vacations, talk about getting my money’s worth! Shop the dress HERE. If you are like me and hate to have to throw on a strapless bra, try these, they work well and if cleaned with soap and water, can be reused time after time!
Aside from my love of Lulu’s options, I have these additional items being delivered from Abercrombie, Nordstrom, and Summersalt. Clearly, I am OVER this terribly confusing Ohio weather!
The Sidestroke by Summersalt
I bought this exact suit (they have multiple color options) in a size 4 (TTS) and am pleasantly surprised. I wanted something I could run around the beach and pool with my kids this summer without feeling so exposed and this is a perfect and stylish option. I have pretty large thighs and I cannot believe how flattering this is on a variety of body types! While it’s a bit pricey ($95), it seems as though it will hold up well for quite some time, and that is a win for me. Shop this suit HERE or try a similar version at a lower cost HERE.
And of course, don’t forget your ‘starter’ tan! I use these two options interchangeably about once a week to keep some color in my ghostly exterior. Be sure to exfoliate before using either product. With the tan towels, you’ll want to moisturize first, and with the Isle of Paradise drops, I mix about 3-4 drops in my hand with one-two squirts of my moisturizing lotion before applying.
