The last few years have seen a billion options for subscription boxes or bags, which typically equivalates to blind ordering. Whether you are subscribing to Hello Fresh to increase dinner options, Stitch Fix to diversify your wardrobe, or others, the trend doesn’t seem to be going away anytime soon and to be honest, I hope it doesn’t! It’s like receiving a surprise gift each month, and who doesn’t love that? I’ll tell you, it’s not me! I initially started my subscription to the makeup and skincare glam bag, IPSY, with my first bag arriving in November 2019.
How to Schedule and What is Sent
While the items you receive are always a fun surprise, they are not just chosen at random. When you sign up initially, you fill out a survey that notes your interests, target areas you want to improve, and interests in trying new items. For myself, I am in the midst of searching for (and I think through IPSY I found it!) a new foundation as well as skincare to test before investing in the full size options. And honestly, IPSY is perfect for this idea. They send you trial size items with a description card as to how they should be applied. For example, the below pore primer came in a container that looks small, but has lasted over a week for a trial run. Additionally, they often send email alerts offering some items at a discounted rate and full size, which is a great bonus. The most fun is dumping out your bag and seeing what goodies have arrived, so let me share just a few of what I have really loved in the last few bags!
Dr. Frog’s Water Full Charge All In One
Dr.Frog’s Water Fullcharge All In One is a Korean brand toner and moisturizer (and I don’t seem to need primer when using this!) that works really well on my dry skin, especially during these winter months. The positives of this are that it is super light weight and makes skin feel soft immediately! The IPSY size is fantastic for including in your travel gear, too!
The downsides I have noticed is that it does seem overall to be a little greasy, but I easily fix that with a very small amount of Laura Mercier’s setting powder. Because it does not seem to contain an SPF, I would most likely use this as my night cream option, or wear a separate SPF protectant.
Morphe Fluidity Concealer
Morphe’s Fluidity Concealer worked really well for me and for the $9 price tag, it’s hard to beat. This product came in its full size, so I’m still working my way through it, but overall I like the full coverage look. It doesn’t seem to settle into my fine lines and blends well over blemishes. Ulta has an array of shades online to choose from. For reference, I received the neutral (light with neutral undertones) option. I could probably go a shade lighter for a brighter under eye, but then I think it would be more noticeable if I use it on blemishes.
Not going to lie, this IT primer was one of my favorite products, as far as seeing results almost immediately. I am typically a die hard fan of SmashBox’s Photo Finish oil free primer, but this worked really well. I have noticeably (to me) large pores and I often struggle with clogged pores due to makeup, that’s why primer is a must for me. I would say this is totally comparable, but for almost the same price, I would probably stick with what I already have.
Purlisse BB Cream
This is the first BB Cream I have ever tried and honestly, I’m not sure I’ll go back to regular foundation. As I age, I am looking for light-weight and natural coverage that doesn’t sink into the fine lines I have started to deal with. I had never heard of this brand before trying out their BB Cream, but now I want to check out other options in their line, too! This gives great coverage and blends naturally and honestly, you need just a tiny bit of it. I have applied with both a sponge and a foundation brush and either works well with the product. A plus that it has SPF 30 built in!
Murad Renewing Eye Cream
The last item that came in my bag was an eye cream from Murad. I can’t speak to results since I have only been using a week, but it feels nice on my skin and doesn’t irritate, whether used at night or under makeup during the day. I will continue to use and see if I notice a difference.
All in all, there were hits and misses, but overall I’m interested to see what IPSY sends each month and because it’s about $12/month, I think it’s a reasonable price to try out a variety of brands and product. If you are on the hunt for new product to add to your makeup bag, or just want to try out new skincare to be preventative with your aging, I would absolutely give this IPSY’s monthly glam bag a try. You can cancel at any time and I think you will be happy with the items you receive!
